Memory of the World UNESCO programme – Polish edition
On November 4th 2016 I had a pleasure to participate in the ceremony of granting the certificates to the eleven documentary heritage monuments that have just been listed in the UNESCO “Memory of the World” Programme. It is a second edition of this programme in Poland:
1. Old Annals, 1120-1122 (The oldest original copy of a historiographical document), The object was presented by Dr Tomasz Makowski, Director of the National Library of Poland. photo: Krzysztof Sitkowski / KPRP
2. Document of fundation and endowment for Cistercianabbey in Łekno, 1153 – one copy in the State Archive in Poznań, and second one in The Archdiocesan Archive of Gniezno.
3. The Krewo Act, 1385 (An act that initiated a closer relationship between Poland and Lithuania) in The Archives of the Cracow Cathedral Chapter. The document was presented by Bishop Grzegorz Ryś. photo: Danuta Matloch.
4. The foundation act of the Prussian Association, 1440 (a document attesting to the foundation of the Prussian Association of towns and knights in the defense against the Teutonic Order), State Archive in Toruń.
5. Missal of the Teutonic Order from the Library of the St. Mary’s Church, 15th century, The Gdańsk Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
6. Łaski’s Statute, 1506 (the first official collection of laws to have been printed in Poland), Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw.
7. “On the Repair of the Commonwealth” by Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski, 1551, Jagiellonian Library in Cracow.
8. Kazimierz Stronczyński’s Description and Views of Antique Monuments in the Kingdom of Poland, 1844-1855, The Print Room of the Warsaw University Library.
9. Political Testament of Prince Adam Jerzy Czartoryski, 1861, The Princes Czartoryski Foundation.
10. Case over Lake Morskie Oko, the second half of the 19th and early 20th century, The Kórnik Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
11. Warsaw Scientific Society Archives, 1907, Polish Academy of Sciences Archives.
